What are the requirements for uniform in September?
All information on our school uniform can be found on our website through this link: UNIFORM
We understand that under these circumstances, you may not be able to get hold of certain items of the uniform before the first day at Ipsley due to needing to check sizes or order them. We ask that you try to get as much of the uniform as possible before the first day back. The minimum requirements for the first day back will be white shirt and black trousers or skirt, black socks or tights and black formal shoes. We will then talk to individuals about your circumstances and when full uniform will be collected.
Will there be assessments at the beginning of Year 5?
We understand that some of you are worried about any learning you have missed in year 4 due to lockdown and may have fallen behind. Remember: everyone is in the same position. We will have assessments at the beginning of year 5 but probably not until you have been with us a few weeks and settled in. These will help us to understand where you are as a learning and what we will need to do to help you with your learning. These assessment will continue at least once a term through the whole year. These are so we can keep track of your learning and progress and possibly adapt our teaching to suit your learning.
When will we find out who our teachers are?
Mrs Field will start organising the classes once she has received all the information about you all from your first school teachers. You will receive a letter from your teacher once these have been organised, you will find out a couple of weeks before the end of term.
What will Ipsley do about social distancing in September?
We, as a school, continue to follow any advice from the government about social distancing in schools and will do so in September whatever the guidance is at that point. We will make sure that you are as safe as you can be in school and will appreciate your cooperation with this.
Is there a good ICT area?
We have an IT room that has 30 new computers in with widescreens. You will have one IT lesson per week with your class teacher. We also have computers in the year 5 area and the library to use to take reading quizzes – you will find out more about that when you come to Ipsley.
Where’s the tuck shop? Are the waffles nice?
Out canteen is open at break time for children to be able to buy toast, crumpets, hash browns, waffles and sometimes sausage rolls. The children at Ipsley tell me the waffles are nice!
Is the work going to be different as they haven’t been at school?
The work in September will not be any different as we will be sticking to the Year 5 curriculum but if we come across subjects that you have not done in maths or English in Year 4 as you have not been in school, we will go over those before moving on the Year 5 or combine with your learning in class.
What bag or pencil can I bring?
You can bring any bag that you wish, any style, any brand but we do recommend a rucksack as it is the easiest for you to carry to and from school.
Will we need to bring our own equipment?
Yes, we would like you to bring your own equipment. This should include; a handwriting pen, pencils, rubber, a sharpener, a 30cm ruler (not flexible) and colouring pencils
What can we have for lunch?
You can choose whether to have hot dinners or bring your own packed lunch. There is a wide variety of choices on the menu for hot dinners and a new menu will come out in September which we will share with you then. If you choose to have hot dinners, you will pay from them using your thumb print which will link up to your ParentPay account where your parents will need to top up with money. All pupils in receipt of free school meals can have a hot meal every day. Everyone will eat in the hall.
