13 Mar BCMG Composition Workshop
On Monday 12th March we were joined by composer, Michael Betteridge, and professional singer, Suzie Purkiss, for a BCMG project. The project was focusing on writing a song for Suzie to perform. We were asked a series of questions such as ‘what does ‘aspire’, ‘believe’ and ‘succeed’ taste, look and smell like and this was used as a base for our lyrics. We then tapped, or spoke, a rhythm for a basis of the song. After that, we explored four note melodies and joined this with our rhythms. Suzie then performed the songs for us so we were able to hear them sang by a professional. Michael also introduced us to graphic scores. We drew graphic scores for how we wanted our melodies to sound like and Suzie sang this for us to hear what it would sound like.
